Mindfulness, or increasing awareness, of what you are feeling or doing in the moment, evokes “emotions, meaning, and memory.”  The idea behind mindfulness is that when you turn attention to the moment, you tune out all the noise that distracts us.  Everything happens in slow motion.  Some happiness therapists say that happiness can happen now; that happiness is not something we need to wait for.  The same rules would apply to pleasure.  In order to feel the full experience of pleasure it helps to be mindful of the moment.  Pleasure can happen now, if we make a commitment to the experience of it, without the noise of what we did in the past, what we will do in the future, or what we should be doing now.

At times we are overwhelmed with defenses when facing a pleasurable experience.  These defenses are often felt in the body.  Our bodies tense up.   Our minds tell us things like, ‘you are not worthy”, “you can never do anything right” “you should be someone else”.  These are ways to manage these defenses.  Using mindfulness techniques will help let go of these thoughts in order to engage in full fledged pleasure.  ”If you’re mindful, sensitive, and quiet, if your mind is open and simply noticing” the moment can elicit quite a deep experience.
