Maximize Pleasure and Happiness!

Mindfulness, or increasing awareness, of what you are feeling or doing in the moment, evokes “emotions, meaning, and memory.” The idea behind mindfulness is that when you turn attention to the moment, you tune out all the noise that distracts us. Everything happens in slow motion. Some happiness therapists say that happiness can happen now; that happiness is not something we need to wait for. The same rules would apply to pleasure. Why Manage Stress?
Researchers have argued that stress is the number one cause of physical and emotional disease in the United States. Our lives are inundated by everyday stressors such as long work hours, commutes, not enough hours to get things done, etc. Some scholars argue stress is bad leading to depression, suicide, immune deficiency, and physical ailments. Other researchers state that some of it is good while others say that is it both good and bad. In the end, research on this topic has been inconclusive. Hence, we have to decide whether what we do on a day to day basis is good, bad or both for us. Some stressors we will identify as bad but necessary (commuting), others we will identify as bad and unnecessary (fighting with your spouse), others as good and necessary (pressure to finish a project), and still others as good and unnecessary (can’t think of anything good that is unnecessary!).
